It was a big night for cat lovers in New York City Wednesday when Matilda, the famous cat at the Algonquin Hotel in Manhattan, celebrated her debut into society with a lavish debutante’s ball.
Matilda, officially Matilda III, is the tenth cat to reside at this landmark residence, which has had a cat since the 1930s. The Ragdoll cat was adopted from North Shore Animal League America and took over from Matilda II, who retired at the age of 15, after greeting hotel guests for more than a decade. (Matilda II now lives with a staff member and enjoys cat napping in a private apartment.)
