HOUR STORY: A trip down the Yellow Brick Road leads to pet adoption

Dorothy won’t just have memories of her journey somewhere over the rainbow.

She’ll be able to take a costar home.

Courtney Fortner is adopting the part Shih Tzu puppy that portrayed Toto in Spotlight Productions’ version of “Wizard of Oz.”

The 15-year-old girl played Dorothy in the production that closed Saturday at Marquette High School.

“Toto came as a rescue dog from the Open Door Animal Sanctuary and is kind of a mess sometimes, being just a puppy, but I fell in love with her and decided to keep her,” said Courtney, of Manchester, on a recent Friday afternoon before an evening show.
