Even though it hasn’t had its official opening, the Welcome Home Adoption Center is busy finding new homes for unwanted pets.
The adoption center, which opened three weeks ago, is the Humane Society of North Texas’ third facility. The society’s main location is on East Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth and another adoption center is in southwest Fort Worth.
The Keller location has been busy from the start, manager Nelda Corbell said.
“We have done over 40 adoptions,” she said. “With no advertising, I think that is pretty good.”
About 75 percent of the animals adopted have been dogs. Some of the animals being brought into the center include cats, rats, and even a guinea pig. “I think it is a sign of the economy,” Corbell said.
