On a Sunday afternoon in September 2008, I received a call from a friend with a pet emergency. When I got to his house, the emergency was a tiny black creature I held in the palm of my hand. It looked more like a newborn black bear than a kitten. I asked if there were any more emergencies and my friend said no. But as soon as I got home with Boo Bear, I got another call for a second emergency. I drove back and rescued an equally tiny ball of peach fuzz whom I named Peaches.
These orphaned litter mates were only 5 days old. I fed and cared for them around the clock and did everything a mother cat does.
