SOUTH Tyneside is gearing up for its second dog walk in just two weeks – with pet owners being urged to dress up as cats for a new charity event.
Just days after Great North Dog Walk organisers claimed more than 22,000 canines took part in their event along South Shields coastline, pet lovers are being asked to do it all over again.
The latest walk, from Souter Lighthouse to The Sundial pub in Sea Road, South Shields, on Saturday will raise money for The Willows Cat Adoption Centre, which cares for homeless and unwanted cats in the borough.
Maria Harrison, owner of The Willows, based in Wantage Street, South Shields, said: “It’s strictly for dogs and their owners.
“Cats can’t take part as it would be distressing for them, but we are asking dog owners to come along in fancy dress.”
