For Melissa St. Pierre and one-and-half-year-old Lucy, it was love at first sight.
“She soooo cute,” said St. Pierre as she lovingly refers to her recently adopted “kitty.”
“It is a big commitment,” said St. Pierre, a psychology graduate student at the University of Windsor. “It’s also a financial commitment.”
But more and more local animal lovers are prepared to make that commitment thanks to an improving economy as well as a $2.5-million renovation to the Essex County Humane Society, said Melanie Coulter, society executive director.
