We have kittens! Not already (as in so early in the year) but as in still … we still have some of the kittens that came in last year. I don’t know which is sadder, having a teenager that has grown up completely in the shelter or seeing the older adults in the shelter that have lost their familiar homes and families.
Those of us that work in the animal welfare field dream of a time when every puppy and kitten born can be guaranteed a home. It’s a dream we are working towards with every spay/neuter surgery completed. The fact that the shelter is still housing kittens from last year and we are close to getting in this year’s kittens is heartbreaking. Of course, the youngest kittens will get adopted first and these teenagers will be overlooked. They are still sweet, very playful and past the hi-jinks of babies so they are ready to settle into a home and become someone’s best friend.
