Brevard animal shelters struggle as more people give up pets

The SPCA of North Brevard has seen a jump in the number of dogs and cats at its shelter, and is struggling to pay the cost of providing vaccinations and medical treatment for them.

So Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officials are hoping an open house today and a dog-friendly event Saturday will help bring attention and funds to their nonprofit organization.  “We want to help with the overabundance of homeless animals,” said Teri Scott, public relations director for the organization.
