Nonprofit animal welfare organization Petsmart Charities Inc. and animal control officials in Maricopa County, Ariz., have collaborated to open a pet-adoption center inside a Scottsdale Petsmart store. The satellite shelter, which opened Feb. 12, was the second in the United States to open as a partnership between Petsmart Charities and a government agency, and it won’t be the last.
“We are very proud to be part of this collaborative effort with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control,” said Susana Della Maddalena, vice president and executive director Petsmart Charities. “At Petsmart Charities, our goal is to save the lives of pets who don’t have homes. This type of collaboration — one that promotes pet adoptions and reduces euthanasia — is key to meeting that goal.”
