Utahns love their pets. And it shows given the number of animals adopted from shelters statewide.
At Salt Lake County Animal Services they boast their dog adoption figures are up 62 percent, while cat adoptions are up 45 percent.
The shelter’s success is due in part because of their system of matching owner to animal with fitting personality.
“We want to make every effort to make it a lifelong companionship,” says John Coulter, an adoption outreach specialist. “And so we do behavior assessments, for instance with all the dogs, so we can better match that dog with the appropriate family.”
