More Than 17,000 Lives Saved During PetSmart Charities(R) National Adoption Weekend

This Valentine’s Day, more than 17,000 homeless dogs, cats and small animals across the nation enjoyed the gift of a lifelong, loving home, thanks to the PetSmart Charities® National Adoption Weekend, which was held Feb. 11-13 in all 1,172 PetSmart® stores in the U.S. and Canada.

More than 2,000 animal-welfare organizations participated in saving the lives of 17,043 pets during the weekend-long event, a 3 percent growth over the event held at the same time last year. PetSmart Charities provided increased adoption-reward grants to all participating shelters and rescue agencies, which received $35 for every pet they adopted at in-store pet adoption centers during the entire week of National Adoption Weekend.

“With the help of all our partner animal-welfare organizations, we are making a real difference for homeless pets,” said Susana Della Maddalena, vice president and executive director of PetSmart Charities, Inc. “With such a successful first national adoption weekend, we anticipate great results for our three other National Adoption Weekends to be held later this year.”
