Spay and Save helps those who can’t afford to spay, neuter their pets

A coalition of local animal shelters hopes that Portland pet owners will do themselves and their communities a favor and have their pets (especially cats) spayed or neutered.

The Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland, comprising local animal welfare organizations and the veterinary community and formed in 2006, started a low-cost spaying and neutering program last February that encourages people to spay and neuter their cats. ASAP wants to decrease the severe cat overpopulation in area shelters and avoid unnecessary euthanasia.
