Feeling awesome can be as simple as taking a four-legged friend for a walk.
For those who may not have the opportunity to have a furry friend at home to join them, there is an easy solution. The only animal shelter of Monroe County, the Animal Welfare Society of Monroe, uses 100 percent of all donations toward supporting the shelter and is always looking for volunteers to help out in any way. Just a simple stroll in the afternoon would lift the spirits of pets awaiting adoption. AWSOM is on Godfrey Ridge Drive in Stroudsburg, just one turn off Route 611.
Now celebrating its first anniversary, the shelter has grown a strong, loyal fan base within surrounding communities. One of AWSOM’s Fundraiser Committee members, Bushkill resident Pat Hammond, elaborated, “You can feel the love for the animals here. Since opening as a no-kill shelter, there is lots of hope for all the animals awaiting adoption, and it is a really good feeling.”
