A record number of animals were adopted from the Henry County Humane Society - Geneseo in 2010.
In the 12-month span, 348 animals were adopted, an increase of 34 adoptions over the 2009 numbers. Shelter volunteers helped 304 cats and 44 dogs find new homes.
“(In 2009), we were so excited about our numbers we figured we’d never top that again. It’s pretty exciting to have topped that record,” said Karen Russell, president of the Henry County Humane Society – Geneseo.
Animals at the shelter are featured on the national pet adoption Web site, www.petfinder.com. As a result, Russell said people will travel to Geneseo to select their new pet.
