Austin Pets Alive, a nonprofit animal shelter located at 2807 Manchaca Road, has opened two new cat adoption sites at the PETCO locations in Sunset Valley and central Austin.
The City of Austin has taken steps recently toward making Austin a no-kill city by establishing a fine for the improper breeding and selling of live animals, specifically cats and dogs. Nonprofit groups like APA are helping to make this goal feasible by placing dogs and cats up for adoption from the Town Lake Animal Shelter kill list.
The PETCO site is the highest-grossing PETCO in Texas in terms of sales and expects to be able to help adopt 300 cats per year at the newly constructed facility. The total cost of the two facilities was $10,000 and local resident Judy Matula donated the funds for the southwest Austin location.
