I believe that you don’t choose your pet, but your pet chooses you. I planned on getting an older dog. Preferably one who was house-trained. I didn’t want to have to deal with a puppy – the house-training, the chewing, the messes. So I went to the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society to look at adult dogs.
To get to the adult dogs, I had to walk through the puppy room. Cute and adorable, who can’t resist a puppy? And then I saw him in a cage by himself, scrappy and scruffy. While the other puppies whimpered and yipped, he simply looked at me, head cocked, as if he were checking me out.
