My name is Dinky and my sister’s name is Melli. In 2003, we lived in Orlando, Fla. Our family was having a baby and didn’t want us anymore, so Florida Dachshund Rescue was tasked with finding us a new home.
FLDR posted our story online. Fortunately, we were adopted quickly and were on our way to Knoxville via the “underground railroad.” The railroad is a network of volunteers who transport rescues to new homes. We were going out of state so we traveled with other dachshunds to Georgia. They weren’t headed to Tennessee, so we met our new mom, Whitney Fair, at a McDonald’s.
