Saturday’s story on the unexpected overcrowding at Norton’s almost brand-new Nine Lives no-kill feline rescue shelter should give reasons to think twice about choosing a pet as a Christmas gift.
Thought 1: Don’t. At least not as a surprise gift. The shelter has exceeded its capacity, currently housing 51 cats and putting another 34 in feline foster homes, because a lot of people have found that a measure of inconvenience is part of the price for the companionship and entertainment afforded by a pet.
