While driving on the highway in May of 2008, I stopped to toss a leaky drink cup into the garbage at a rest area. Something small, loud and dirty made its way to my left foot. Believing it to be a kitten, I dropped it into a paper bag and started to go. Out of the corner of my eye I saw six more lying scattered on the ground. I remembered a vet office only a few miles away. Taking my find, the vet examined this 6-ounce creature and determined the kitten was ill, starving and might not survive the night. I decided to take it home.
After five nights of sleeping on my throat, we knew the kitten was going to live. We also discovered our kitten was male and had extra toes on his front feet.
