Animal Based Charities plans ‘gratitude’ party

In just a year of operation, Animal Based Charities has given out 23,000 pounds of free pet food to cash-strapped rescue groups.

Founders of the nonprofit organization, which sponsors pet adoption events and runs a thrift shop in South Tampa, are grateful for all the support it has gotten from the public.

So the charity is hosting a holiday “gratitude” party Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its thrift shop, 4340 S. Manhattan Ave.

“It’s just our way of saying thank you,” said co-founder Rick Medina. “The success we’ve had this year, especially in this struggling economy, can be attributed to the people who believe in our mission.”

Today’s party includes refreshments and a visit from “Santa Paws.” People are invited to bring their pets and cameras.
