‘Swamp pups’ thrive in Woodcrest home

For 13 years, Debbie Jordan and her neighbor, Pam Mikesell, have been rescuing dogs dumped in a patch of land in their Woodcrest neighborhood known as “the swamp.”

Over the past year, the women have picked up dozens of canines, nursed them back to health and turned them over to the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center.

But nothing prepared the women for what they found in the swamp Nov. 3: a litter of 10 puppies born to one of three dogs abandoned by their owner when he moved away.
