Local pet adoption center set to close

After seven years of community service to Payette County and Malheur County, Second Chance Pet Adoption Center is closing its doors in the beginning of December.Barb Hutchinson, director of the center, said money is a major factor in the closure, but not the only reason.“When we started the shelter, we meant for it to be only cats and a few dogs,” Hutchinson said. “But, as the years went on, we got more and more dogs. The sad thing about it is, we don’t have a facility for as many dogs as we have.”Hutchinson said the dogs have gotten the most donations, because people are more willing to donate food and money for dogs, but she doesn’t have the cleaning facility she needs.
