David Backes, and his wife Kelly, helped move dogs from a crowded no-kill shelter in Farmington, Missouri to a more spacious Humane Society in St. Charles. The St. Louis Blues Hockey Team may have the day off, but one of its players was hard at work helping abandoned dogs find a forever home.
This was not an easy or clean job, but husband and wife dug in with both hands and all their hearts. The dogs came from the Farmington Pet Adoption Center. The Backes family and staff from the St. Charles Humane Society helped move 31 dogs, including a mom and her pups.
Both facilities are no-kill shelters, but that is part of the problem. “Quite often, the employees will show up in the morning to work and there will be a bucket of puppies, or a dog tied to the gate,” said Beth Hasse of the Farmington Pet Adoption Center.
