Demand for the Cat Adoption Team’s pet-food bank indicates that pet owners are still in great need of assistance, despite signs of economic recovery in Oregon.
Housing starts are up slightly, temp agencies are hiring again (usually a precursor to permanent hires’ picking up) and consumer spending is up a tiny bit.
But a lot of people are still struggling, as evidenced by the demand for free pet food at the cat shelter in Sherwood Sunday.
CAT offers free pet food to people in need noon-2 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month. The program started June 2009. Sixteen cat owners showed up on the first day. Over the next six months, CAT gave away about 3,500 pounds of cat food.
