Pet Adoption Event Aims to Save Animals, One Pet at a Time

Hundreds of dogs, cats and other furry and feathered homeless creatures were available for adoption this weekend at the fifth annual Pet Expo and Adoption Event, sponsored by local animal rescue nonprofit Guardians for Animals.

The free two-day event, held at Madison Place in Madison Heights, hosted silliest pet trick and best-dressed pet contests, vendor booths, games, advice from a veterinarian, animal education for children, and food, including for four-legged members.

“Once a child learns about animals, that passion could save an entire species,” said Alexandria Whitney, president and founder of the animal advocacy group.
