George Grossman, the operations manager for the Wilmington PetSmart store, reported that 91 homeless pets found new families over the course of the three-day event – 28 cats and 63 dogs.
A number of local rescue and animal-welfare groups were on hand, including Monty’s Home, Columbus Humane Society, Topsail Humane Society, Pender Endangered Animal Rescue and Tails U Win. While I was there an act of kindness took place, one that had a couple of people needing tissues to wipe their eyes, including Kathy Lewis, director of the Topsail Humane Society.
The Richardson family – mom, dad and their two children – was inquiring about Mocha, a 5-year-old chihuahua looking for a home through Topsail Humane. The Richardsons already have a chihuahua named Sadie Mae.
