Round Barn goes to the dogs

This summer is a tough time to be a stray or pet up for adoption in Adams County. Last week, King, a 9-month-old pitbull, was found tied to a mile marker with scars all over his body.

Adams County SPCA shelter manager Dawn Wike said they think King may have been used as a bait dog for dogfighting.

It took some time for his wounds to heal, but on Sunday, King was out and about with the other dogs at the first annual Dog Days of Summer, held at the Historic Round Barn and Farm Market in Biglerville, to benefit his temporary home.

Things are tight at the shelter these days, Wike said, and the tough economy is to blame.

“People lose their homes every day,” she said. “People lose their dogs every day.
