The Humane Society of El Paso will have a Labor Day pet adoption event Friday-Sept. 6. All dogs and cats older than a year will cost $75, which includes vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, a microchip and registration.
The shelter, 4991 Fred Wilson, will be open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Sept. 5 and from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Labor Day.

Sadie is a beautiful, young girl who has slightly crossed blue eyes. She is very friendly and loves to be brushed. She has a dainty, sweet meow that she uses to get your attention or some yummy treat. She loves attention from everyone, so she’d do great with a family with lots of people to love her. Sadie is very well behaved and has perfect manners.

Dewey Needs a Forever Home
Dewey, aka Bruno, loves to cuddle and lick your face. He is also a feisty, playful little guy who loves to play with other dogs. He wants to play with the cats, but the feeling is not entirely mutual. Dewey gets along great with children of all ages, as he has been socialized with all of the kids in the foster family’s entire neighborhood.

In an effort to help the city reach its goal of being no-kill by 2012, Animal Care Services has implemented the Guardian Angels program, allowing members of the community to provide temporary foster homes for cats and dogs in need of adoption.
The Guardian Angels program aims to help the city shelter maximize the number of adoptable pets.
Those who participate can take their foster pets to weekly adoption events in San Antonio until the pet is adopted. Food, litter and veterinary care will be provided by ACS through the duration of the pet
Persons wanting a warm and fuzzy holiday can take it a step farther by visiting the Plano Animal Shelter to purchase an adoption gift certificate for a special price of only $60, a $20 savings from the normal adoption fee of $80.
The certificate, good for the adoption of a dog or cat, includes spay/neuter (if needed), worming, first dog or cat vaccination, bordetella and rabies vaccination, heartworm test for dogs (if old enough), a microchip, first year registration for Plano residents, a leash/collar, starter food packet with discount coupons and discounted puppy or dog training classes.

This Christmas there are hundreds of animals right here in the Panhandle who need a home for the holidays.The Dalhart Animal Wellness Sanctuary – or DAWGS – has many dogs and cats, especially those with special needs.One volunteer says the no kill shelter has taken in deaf dogs and three legged dogs.
Many were just days away from being put down when they were rescued.

Those cute kittens and puppies will scratch, dig, chew, and wet their way into the house! An older cat or dog will probably start their life with you in a much more respectful manner. Elder pets become homeless in a variety of ways. Sometimes their guardian becomes ill or passes away, and the extended family doesn't want the animal.
