Continue reading »]]> On June 9 at St. John the Baptists Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach, WARM will be holding a yard sale, bake sale, barbeque and pet adoption.

The sales start at 8 a.m., visitation with adoptable animals will begin at 10 a.m. and then barbeque will be served at 11 a.m.  There is live entertainment planned and the entire event will wrap up at 2 p.m.

WARM is still looking for donations for their yard sale. Pick up or drop off of items can be arranged. South Strand residents with donations should call Susan at 215-4397, North Strand residents should call Judy at 399-6013 or Sarah at 361-1716. Continue reading »]]> The Grand Strand Humane Society is holding its annual Cat-A-Palooza event from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday.

The cat-adoption event offers people the opportunity to give a permanent home to a healthy cat for a donation instead of a set price. The minimum donation is $10 for cats that have already been spayed or neutered, have had all their shots and are ready to go home.

If you choose one that hasn’t been neutered, it’s $85 and comes with a spin of the shelter’s prize wheel and a chance to win discounts or gift certificates for your new cat’s next vet visit. Unaltered cats will be scheduled for the next available surgery date and ready to go home after their surgery.

The shelter is double its capacity for cats right now, officials said, and more than 60 cats of all ages, sizes and colors will be available to good homes.

“Every cat cage is full,” said Grand Strand Humane Society Executive Director Sandy Brown. “We have many wonderful cats in our lobby, hallways and offices. They are all so beautiful and loving, if you’re looking to adopt, please come by the shelter.”

Every person interested in adopting a cat will have to go through the normal adoption process and be approved by one of the shelter’s adoption counselors.

Continue reading »]]> Palmetto Animal League is hosting a Pounce into spring adoption event April 2-7, offering to fill your Easter Basket with the love of a furry friend. For that one week only, they are offering low or no adoption fees to help find homes for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

The Palmetto Animal League Adoption Center (Riverwalk Business Park, Highway 170) has a variety of socialized, healthy and happy animals that need to get adopted to make room for other cats and dogs in need of their second chance at life. All adult cat adoption fees are being paid for by Lowcountry Paver. And through their continued generosity, Lowcountry Paver will underwrite the adoption fee for any puppy, adult dog, or kitten bringing the reduced adoption fee to only $50 (including spay/neuter, vaccines, parasite control and microchip).

These adult cats make wonderful office or warehouse companions, reducing stress and brightening the work environment. PAL also sponsors yearly vaccinations for these cats to keep them healthy.

The playfulness, the friskiness, the over-all awesomeness, but what happens when little kitty grows up, when the friskiness ends and furballs begin? Unfortunately for some, this means being put on the street to fend for themselves. For others, it means ending up at a place like the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach with 164 other felines.

It’s no secret animal shelters are overcrowded. In fact, in 2011 WPDE wrote that according to Horry County Animal Care Center staff, almost 70% of animals in southern shelters are euthanized because of lack of funds and space.

So what better way to help ease overcrowding than to hold a promotion like this one? Adult cats are offered up for adoption for a nominal $25 fee. This includes vaccinations and spay/neutering. Talk about a deal? Seriously folks! If you have room in your heart and your home, why not consider it?

My name is Snowflake. About two months ago, I was found in PetsMart on Laurens Road in Greenville, SC. Someone set me loose in PetsMart without telling anyone. The managers found me running around early one morning and called the Managing Director of FUR of the Upstate. I was then put in the FUR program. FUR of the Upstate got me groomed (I was badly matted). They have me in a foster home because I was very thin and need some major TLC. If you would like to give me a home, please fill out an application on me. I’m not sure how I feel about other animals because my foster has not wanted to stress me out and let me around other animals. My first foster did let me around his cats and I was picked on. Continue reading »]]> Those interested in getting a look inside the new Meyer Finlay Pet Adoption Center in the Harbison area can do so this week.

The center will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the new facility, 1275 Bower Parkway.

Tours of the 27,000-square-foot building will be offered until 6:30 p.m. and volunteers and staff members from Pawmetto Lifeline will answer questions.

The $4 million center will offer spay and neuter services, adoption, low-cost medical services, education and training programs.
