Foothills Animal Rescue has 175 pets at its shelter in north Scottsdale and an additional 50 in foster homes.
A volunteer organization, the shelter at 23030 N. Pima Road has a core of 40 volunteers who work once or twice a week. But shelter director Dawn Kavanaugh said there’s a need for 100 to 125 more volunteers to make the non-profit effective.
Jobs include adoption counselor, adoption assistant, office assistant, animal-care assistant, cat-room attendant, dog-room attendant, foster-care providers and people to help in the clinic. Volunteers with expertise in marketing, web design or animal health also are needed.

Emmy is a very sweet girl that loves to run after the laser toy but she’s also very fond of taking naps either in a sunny window by herself or at the foot of the bed with you which is one of her favorite things to do. This cutie was rescued from near starvation and living in a parking lot when we found her. Back then she was very thin and had to fight to get anything to eat. These days Emmy is on a diet and trying to keep her girlish figure under control. Emmy does well with other younger quieter kitties maybe because she likes to be the mom, but she would really like to be the only adult in her new home. If you?re looking for a sweet ? laid back girl, you’ve found her. (Birthday: 6/2006) For more information on this sweetie, please call Cathy at 661-273-9822 or email her at hosford@hotmail.com View this pet on Petfinder.com

Health and financial problems are forcing the owner of Woofie Animal Rescue Foundation to close. Last week 90 dogs were on the property. As of Wednesday, Mechell Dixon learned that number is down to about 25.
