Animal shelter dream may be realized by group

If all goes as planned, a new animal shelter will soon open its doors in Henry County, catering to the needs of the four legged members of the community.

he joint venture between Henry County Animal Rescue and Henry County Critter Adoption Maintenance Program (CAMP for short) is in the final stages of purchasing land for the shelter, and hopes to unveil its location next month.

Until then, HCAR President Tammy Farley is hard at work, building support across the county for the new facility.

New Animal Shelter to Open Monday in Keokuk

The Keokuk Humane Society Shelter, a no-kill facility at 12th and Johnson streets, will open Monday to receive animals.Hours will be 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Someone will always be working at the shelter during the hours the building is closed to the public.
