Cats Tom and Jerry Would Love a Together Forever Home

Tom and Jerry are 10 months  old grey Tabbies whose mother which was feral got killed by a car.  Kind people trapped the kittensand called Paw Parent.  They are living here now and have a great time but would love to have a whole apartment or house to roam and play in.  Here they are in a roomfull of other cats. They could not be more different in personality. Tom is the shy one and still does not trust people.  He can be petted but first you have to be able to get him.  While Jerry is quite the opposite.  Once he knows and trusts you he is the PURR-MACHINE!!!  Even before you touch him he will start his little engine.  He is so affectionate and sweet and loves to cuddle up next to you. He is so beautiful too:  long bushy tail and this cute little round face :)   It would be wonderful if the two could be adopted together.  They are neutered and had their shots and have been dewormed.  Please call 661-724-0642 if you interested in adopting them.

Free shots for life with adult cat adoption

Hillsborough County Animal Services is once again partnering with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay in a groundbreaking attempt to save innocent lives. This time, the focus is on finding homes for adult shelter cats.

And the incentive is a great one for potential adopters.

Both organizations’ animal shelters are offering free vaccinations for the life for any adult cat (one year of age or older) adopted from either location between Sept. 1 and Feb. 28, 2011. Each qualifying cat will be entitled to one free annual rabies and distemper shot from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s Wellness Clinic.

Nationally, cat adoptions tend to lag far behind those of dogs. The goal of the new Free Shots for Life program is to increase cat adoptions in Hillsborough by at least 10 percent.

Volunteers needed to pet a dog or hug a kitty

While touring the Pet Adoption League, PAL, shelter last week, I was amazed at the friendly animals just waiting to be adopted.

As I entered the “cat” room, a friendly jet black cat rubbed against my leg, while another purebred ragdoll purred for attention. There was a “cat volunteer” giving needed vaccinations for a deadly disease that has recently been killing kittens. I think I saw just about every color and breed of cat imaginable. The cats and kittens were beautiful, loved by volunteers and very friendly.

As I walked toward the dog kennels, I was warned that we would not be able to communicate inside of the kennel. They were right. The dogs barked loudly, but as I walked around the kennels full of great looking black labradors, english pointers, and cow dogs, they wagged their tails and stuck their wet noses through the chain link kennel staring at me. It was easy to tell that volunteers had spent much time with these animals.

Kill, Kill, Kill, Why Does Georgia Like to Kill? Poor Dogs and Cats

Rescue was on the way in Floyd County, GA–why were these dogs killed?

The emails go out late at night, with subject headings that describe lives caught in a broken system: “Urgent, these puppies scheduled to die tomorrow”, “Beautiful Maine Coon cat with kittens, last day”, “frightened collie, abuse case, needs you or she dies Wednesday”. They go out relentlessly—day after day, week after week, describing puppies, kittens, senior dogs, cats with colds, purebreds, mixed breeds, abused animals who need a hero, and once-loved family pets who, one way or another, have fallen on hard times and are now coming to the end of their time in a kill shelter. They hint at the stories of lives that will be cut short if not for the network of rescuers who use the internet to conjure up one miracle after another.

They pull all-nighters getting the word out through email and Facebook. They ‘crosspost’ pictures and descriptions of the animals in need, and they coordinate the rescue offers that come through, some of which involve transport to another state. It’s a team effort and includes people around the state, the country, even the world. They’re all racing against the clock because they know that a deadline is just that.
