Rather than throwing money away on unneeded consumer goods that won’t bring happiness and are soon relegated to the rest of the “things” people don’t need, I challenge New Yorkers and others fortunate enough to have sufficient funds, to adopt these treasures and see what real unconditional loyalty, love, and beauty truly are.

While this is laudable in concept, I wonder how advisable it is in reality; after all, if someone doesn’t have the basic adoption funds, how likely are they to be able to cover the ongoing day-to-day costs of basic (and beyond basic) food and medical care for their companion cat or other animal?

Animal shelters are a great refuge for abused animals. But what happens when the people who run the shelters that take in the animals don’t care about them? Sometimes, the abuse they suffer in these shelters is worse than if the animals were just left out on the street.
