The Montclair Township Animal Shelter is once again partnering with Montclair Feed & Pet Supply to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early with an offer for those looking for love—reduced adoption fees on all dogs and cats during the in-store event on Saturday, Feb. 4. A number of the Shelter’s adoptable pets will be on-site at 191 Glenridge Avenue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with dog adoption fees reduced to $70 and cat fees to $50. The fee reductions will also apply to all adoptable pets at the Shelter, located at 77 North Willow Street. The Shelter will open an hour earlier for the event on Feb. 4, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Montclair Township Animal Shelter began on-site adoption events at Montclair Feed & Pet Supply in the beginning of 2012. On the first Saturday and last Sunday of each month volunteers transport a number of the Shelter’s adoptable pets to the store for display for the hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Shelter provides animal care, control and pet adoption services to the townships of Montclair, Nutley and Verona. Located at 77 North Willow Street in Montclair, the Shelter is open Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Off-hour and off-day visits are available by appointment. Meet Callie and her brother Mikey. They are about 5 months old looking for a home to call their own. Callie is the gray calico and Mikey is the Orange Tabby.

Their Mom, Barbie, who is very young (just about 1 year old herself), is a pretty long haired Calico who also is looking for a home. Barbie’s owner didn’t spay her so she ended up as many young cats – getting pregnant. Once her kittens were old enough she was spayed. But for some reason her owner changed her mind and decided that not only was she ready to give up the kittens, she no longer wanted Barbie. So now Barbie is looking for a home along with her kittens. All of them are very sweet and affectionate.Come meet Barbie and her kittens at the Pet Adoption Center at PetSmart, 187 Millburn Ave., on Saturday, Jan. 28, and Sunday, Jan. 29, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Montclair Township Animal Shelter is cooperating with Montclair Feed & Pet Supply to offer in-store pet adoption days.

Located at 191 Glenridge Ave., Montclair Feed & Pet Supply will showcase the shelter’s homeless pets to community residents.

Beginning in the new year, shelter volunteers will be on-site at Montclair Feed with adoptable dogs and cats on the first Saturday and last Sunday of each month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The first adoption event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7.

In a release, Montclair Animal Shelter Coordinator Melissa Neiss praised Montclair Feed & Pet Supply owner Joel Tabor for his participation in the pet-adoption effort.

“We are thrilled to have a local venue to increase exposure to our animals, and thank Joel Tabor and Montclair Feed for making this possible,” Neiss stated. “Through this initiative, we’ll be able to introduce more of our animals to interested adopters who may not see them otherwise, raise awareness of our shelter and promote the benefits of adopting a homeless pet.”

Montclair Feed & Pet Supply is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Point Paws, the Animal Welfare Committee of Point Pleasant, will be hosting an open adoption event and cat food drive at its rescue center from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 18.  The rescue center is located across from the borough Department of Public Works Facility at 733 Albert E. Clifton Ave.

Area residents are encouraged to visit the rescue center to browse available kittens and cats for adoption.  The nonprofit organization will also be collecting cat food to ensure a plentiful supply for the winter ahead.  Donations of wet and dry food for kittens and cats, as  well as clumping and clay litter, are needed.

Those who cannot attend are encouraged to purchase items and have them sent to the rescue center through the organization’s Amazon Wish List.

MORRIS PLAINS — Rosa is a “senior” bichon/poodle mix and Dolly is a 4-year-old dachshund. Both dogs were abandoned and ended up at shelters before being rescued by Second Chance Pet Adoption. Rosa is a calm lapdog who gets along well with dogs and cats. She has only three teeth left, but has no problem eating soft food.

Dolly, initially nervous with strangers, especially men, warms up after awhile. She would be best suited to a calm household. Both dogs are spayed and up-to-date on shots.

Coming off the heels of a successful dog adoption event, Sammy’s Hope and Muscle Maker Grill will team up for a Home for the Holidays Cat Adoption Day on Dec. 17.

Sammy’s Hope is a 501(c)3 animal rescue group that finds forever homes for shelter animals in conjunction with the Edison Animal Shelter.

From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., cats will be viewable at the North Brunswick restaurant, located at 540 Milltown Road.

If someone is interested in adopting, they can fill out an application on-site. If approved, they will be invited to visit the animal shelter with other family members and pets, will have a home check completed and will have references checked. Once the necessary paperwork is filed with the Edison Health Department, the cat can be picked up. The process usually takes about seven days.

In addition, Muscle Maker Grill will donate $1 for each wrap, salad or entrée purchased with a flier to Sammy’s Hope. The flier is available at www.sammyshope.org.

The Liberty Humane Society hosted an adoption in honor of National Mutt Day, a national initiative to make dog adoption easier.

National Mutt Day was created to raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs in shelters around the nation and to educate the public about the sea of mixed breed dogs that desperately await new homes.

Mikey is a sweet and affectionate guy just looking for a home to call his own.

He is an orange tabby with white boots and white chest. He is very bonded with his sister Callie who is a pretty sleek gray calico. Mikey and Callie are about 17 weeks old and need to be adopted together. Their mom, Barbie, who is very young (just about 1 year old herself) is a pretty long haired Calico also looking for a home. All of the kittens are negative for Aids/FeLV, and up to date on shots. Adult cats are also available for adoption.

Adoptions are held every weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the same times and same location.

Volunteers needed to help with cleaning cages at the Pet Adoption Center.

Volunteers must be 18 years old or older, or at least 14 years old and accompanied by adult.
