PET ADOPTION FUR-stival raises funds for pet adoption

Berta, the Iowa Hawkeyes cheerleader, greeted as many guests as she could. Calm but friendly, she stood near the door while people greeted her and told her how cute she was. And often Berta wagged her tail.

Berta, a beagle, was one of the stars Sunday afternoon at the third annual Humane Society of Scott County Fall FUR-stival.

Despite the weather that prevented activities from being held outside, “We had a nice little turnout,” said Pam Arndt, the society’s executive director.

Patrick Adamson from Comedy Sportz judged the costumed animals, and Happy Dog Bakery was on hand to provide treats for canine guests. Children competed for prizes in a scavenger hunt designed to familiarize them with the building.

“That’s really what this whole event is about, for people to learn more about the shelter,” Arndt said.

  1. Pet adoption is near and dear to my heart. The hubster and I used to foster for a couple of dog rescue groups. Now, we are happy to have two furbabies of our own.
