When referring to creating ‘Ripples of Hope’ within society or in our communities, we have to address the power of youth – the role they play in creating and driving change is so powerful.
Giving Back and Getting Strong!, a core component of Campagna Academy’s programming, is encouraging youth to give back to their community through volunteer projects. I believe that when youth have a positive impact on those around them, they learn they are capable, they are strong, and they have the power to make a difference.
The young men and women in Campagna’s residential and in-home services have a lot to brag about, as they are busy planning and executing their own fundraising event.
This year, 26 of our youth will be representing four of our six Campagna programs and have chosen Humane Society of Calumet Area as the nonprofit agency that will benefit from the funds they raise.
They are presently working out the details and planning for a Sept. 22 visit, when Humane Society of Calumet Area will bring more than 60 cats and dogs to available for adoption to the community to our Schererville campus.
To date, our kids have been working out the details of this event in committee meetings, decorating and painting chairs, and baking dog treats, as they anticipate the thrill of their projects being auctioned Sept. 22. This first-time event, which we hope will become annual, is an incredible opportunity to showcase their power and to create change.
