A festive atmosphere enveloped the Helping Hands Humane Society shelter Saturday afternoon as employees and volunteers celebrated each animal’s new home with cheers and pomp and circumstance.
The shelter, 2625 N.W. Rochester Road, featured a graduation theme for its Adopt-A-Thon, which was to run from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., with cupcakes and cakes provided by Yum Cafe and Bakery.
Bill Acree, executive director for Helping Hands, said there had been 16 graduations — or adoptions — by 3 p.m. Eight dogs and eight cats were the happy graduates.
